Community Education Classes
What is Community Education? In short, Community Education classes are typically adult-only programs offered through school districts; a district usually provides the location for a class and an independent instructor brings the educational content. Classes often happen on weekdays in the evenings. In most cases, you do not need to be a resident or live near a certain school district to attend their Community Education classes, though there may be an additional fee for non-district registrants. The cost of our Community Education classes usually range from $15-$25 per person. Why do some programs have different registration fees for different districts? Price differences are caused by the percentage of the registration fee that the district keeps, as well as non-district resident fees.
Advanced registration is required for all classes. Registration payments are processed through school districts, WildWood WNY cannot process your registration, but we are happy to help if you have any questions!

Birding 101 From the tiny Ruby-throated Hummingbird to the mighty Great Horned Owl, there’s an abundance of amazing avian life right here in Western New York! Birding 101 focuses on teaching participants how to identify species that are often found in yards, parks, and woodlands. Birding is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to connect with nature – join us for this introductory class to kickstart your new hobby!

Halloween Special: Creature Features! Spend the evening exploring some of the stranger things that you may encounter out in the wild in the Eastern United States, including killer shrews, zombie insects, and birds with bone-melting stomach acid!

Birding 201 Already comfortable with the basics of birding and looking to take your identification skills to the next level? Birding 201 is the class for you! Birding 201 focuses on how clues like behaviors, habitats, and field marks can be used to help you identify trickier groups of birds, such as sparrows, warblers, and raptors.

Paleontology of WNY

Hundreds of million years ago, Western New York was covered by a shallow sea that was home to a variety of aquatic animals, including trilobites, brachiopods, eurypterids, and armored fish. This class explores the lives of some of these ancient animals, as well as the fossils that they left behind.
